History

The Atsadang was constructed to serve as a commercial row building due to King Rama V’s royal policy to develop the city to be orderly arranged and prepare for economic expansion in the country. Hence the overall city in that period was well-organized and most buildings were attractive with outstanding characters.

Situated in the corner of Phonyasi Road, the Atsadang represents Colonial architecture whose structure was made of brick masonry and gable tiled roofs. The building is 2-storey having 3-side bays each of which was adorned by Hermes God, a symbol of commerce and negotiation. The exterior was also decorated with exquisite stucco all round. The Atsadang at present has been converted to a boutique hotel under the same name. The restoration was done by its current proprietor to improve the functionality, harmonize with surroundings and persist in the building’s original style. Therefore, all materials have been carefully selected and the decoration process was concerned about combining the recent hotel’s utility with its historical integrity of Rattanakosin period.
