Location 391 Soi Petchkasem 28, Khwaeng Khuhasawan, Khet Phasi Charoen, Bangkok

Proprietor Chumpon Akkapantanon and His Fellow Artists

Conservation Awarded 2010

History

This house was formerly owned by Raksamruaj family and used to be a grocery and also gold shop which was the main business for villagers in Bang Luang canal area since Thonburi era. Later an artist group led by Chompon Akkapantanon and his fellow artists who was fascinated to the old wooden house along the canal and the traditional living style of people in the waterside, bought the house from a previous owner and renovated it for their office and exhibition gallery of their paintings and photographs. It is also the coffee, souvenir and postcard shop.

This wooden 2 storey house surrounded by porch is well ventilated. The gabled roof was made of galvanized iron. The house plan is U shape and in the center stands a stupa with twelve-indented corners which was assumingly from a temple located near the house in Ayutthaya period.

Today the Artist House is one of distinguished places in local people lifestyle along the canal where always attracts many visitors, especially on weekends. However the artists’ intention for the place is still to keep it conventionally simple and not to crowded and noisy.
