History

Ban Bayan, originally named “Ban Phlap Pa” (Wild Apricot House), was built during the reign of King Rama VI to serve as a recreational resort for H.R.H. Prince Krommaphraya Thewawongwaropakan and was subsequently inherited to his daughter, Mom Chaoying Apsonsaman, a wife of H.R.H. Prince Krommaphra Chanthaburi Naruenat. After her demise, the property was divided and allocated to her heirs and the land in which Bayan House was situated was sold to Mrs. Prapha Chaiyawat on 1st April 1952. Chaiyawat family called this house “Ban Bayan” following the name of their business and being named by a famous writer “Yakhop.” The house was adapted to “Ban Bayan Beach Hotel” as additional small accommodations have been constructed and various local trees were planted to create tranquil ambience.

Ban Bayan is a 2-storey wooden house in Colonial style laid on north-south axis parallel to the sea of Hua Hin. Its hipped roof was finished with cement tiles. Multi-purpose area, massage room and storage are in the ground floor; whereas the upper floor includes 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The house also extended spacious balcony in the front and small deck at its rear. Decorative elements are balustrades and wood openworks forheadlights, sunshades, railings and staircases.

This building portrays Chaiyawat family’s determination in preserving the architectural heritage with heedful care. They altered its function, added facilities and converted the property to be business while still maintaining its original style. As a result, the earning profit has been used for maintenance and conservation of this valuable estate to last into the future.
