ประวัติ

พิพิธภัณฑ์ท้องถิ่นกรุงเทพมหานคร เขตบางรัก เดิมชื่อ พิพิธภัณฑ์ชาวบางกอก ก่อตั้งขึ้นด้วยความมุ่งมั่นและความตั้งใจของอาจารย์วราพร สุรวดี ผู้เป็นเจ้าของซึ่งอยากจะจัดบ้านและทรัพย์สินที่ได้รับมรดกจากมารดา คือ นางสอาง สุรวดี (ตันบุญเล็ก) ให้เป็นพิพิธภัณฑ์ อาจารย์ได้ปรึกษาหารือกับคณะกรรมการชุมชนและมีความเห็นร่วมกันว่าควรยกให้เป็นสมบัติของกรุงเทพมหานคร รวมทั้งการบริหารจัดการด้วย โดยอาจารย์ได้ทำเรื่องยกบ้านหลังนี้โอนกรรมสิทธิ์ แก่กรุงเทพมหานครเสร็จสมบูรณ์ เมื่อวันที่1 ตุลาคม พ.ศ. 2547 และกรุงเทพมหานครได้เข้ามาบริหารจัดการเป็นต้นมา โดยจัดบริเวณของชั้น 2 ของอาคาร 3 เป็นนิทรรศการภาพรวมของกรุงเทพมหานครโดยเฉพาะย่านบางรักในอดีตจนถึงปัจจุบัน และรวมกับอาคารอื่นๆ ในเขตบ้านภายใต้ชื่อ พิพิธภัณฑ์ท้องถิ่นกรุงเทพมหานคร เขตบางรัก เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของโครงการนำร่องสนองนโยบายการมีพิพิธภัณฑ์ท้องถิ่นของแต่ละเขต

การจัดแสดงภายในพิพิธภัณฑ์มุ่งนำเสนอ วิถีชีวิตของชาวกรุงเทพฯ ที่มีฐานะปานกลาง ในช่วงก่อนและหลังสงครามโลกครั้งที่ 2 (ราวปี พ.ศ. 2480 - 2500) แบ่งออกเป็น 4 อาคารคือ อาคารหลังที่ 1 เป็นบ้านไม้ทรงปั้นหยาสร้าง ในปี พ.ศ. 2480 ภายในบ้านยังคงรักษาบรรยากาศเดิมไม่ว่าจะเป็นห้องนอนห้องรับแขก หรือแม้แต่เครื่องเรือนก็เป็น ยุคเดียวกันกับบ้าน ส่วนอาคารหลังที่ 2 เป็นบ้านไม้ 2 ชั้น ซึ่งเดิมเคยตั้งอยู่ที่ซอยงามดูพลี ย่านทุ่งมหาเมฆ แล้วได้รื้อมาสร้างใหม่ไว้ที่นี่ เจ้าของเดิมคือ นายแพทย์ฟรานซิส คริสเตียน ซึ่งสำเร็จการศึกษาจากประเทศอังกฤษสิ่งของภายในบ้าน จึงบ่งบอกถึงการถ่ายทอดวัฒนธรรมระหว่างตะวันออกและตะวันตกได้อย่างน่าสนใจ จัดเป็นห้องนิทรรศการแสดงสิ่งของเครื่องใช้ในชีวิตประจำวัน เช่น เครื่องครัว เครื่องมือช่าง ฯลฯ และอาคารหลังที่ 3 ชั้นล่าง จัดแสดงเอกสาร เช่น โฉนด สำมะโนครัว แผนที่ต่างๆ ที่เจ้าของบ้านเคยเก็บสะสมไว้ ชั้นบน จัดแสดงนิทรรศการภาพรวมของกรุงเทพมหานคร ตั้งแต่อดีตจนถึงปัจจุบัน สุดท้ายคือ อาคารหลังที่ 4 ปัจจุบันเป็นห้องสมุดอาจารย์วราพร

พิพิธภัณฑ์ท้องถิ่นกรุงเทพมหานคร เขตบางรัก แสดงให้เห็นถึงความตั้งใจและความมุ่งมั่นของอาจารย์วราพร สุรวดี และกรุงเทพมหานครในการอนุรักษ์มรดกทางประวัติศาสตร์และสถาปัตยกรรมที่มีคุณค่า และเปิดโอกาสให้เยาวชนและผู้สนใจทั่วไปได้เข้ามาศึกษาหาความรู้

History

The Bangkokian Museum was founded by the strong will anddetermination of Professor Waraporn Surawadee . Having inherited the house and its possessions from her mother, Mrs. Sa-Ahng Surawadee (Tanbunlak), the professor was truly committed to transform her house into a museum to offer future generations access to Thailand’s cultural heritage. Upon the advice of the local community committee, the professor decided to transfer ownership of the house to Bangkok Metropolis to manage its operations under the name “Local Bangkok Museum Bang Rak, effective 1 October 2004

Located on the second floor of building No.3 is consecrated to an exhibition hall displaying images of Bangkok past to present and considered as an exemplary model project in line with district policies.

Focusing on the middle class way of life in old Bangkok before and after World War II (1937-1957), the exhibition is divided as follows:

The first building erected in 1937, is built entirely of wood with ahipped roof . Home interior and decorations are maintained in its original form be it the bedroom , living room and home furnishings.

The second building display tools used in the old days such as houseware, kitchenware, and mechanical equipments. The former owner being a British - educated doctor, the ambiance interestingly reflects a mélange of eastern and western cultures.

The third building displays several official documents such as title deeds, family registrations and maps collected by the houseowner. Images of Bangkok from past to present is beautifully displayed and well categorized.

The fourth building has currently become the Waraporn library, named after its founder who successfully fulfilled her aim to educate the new generation on the historical and culture value of our past.
