ประวัติ

ครูมนตรี ตราโมท ศิลปินแห่งชาติและศิลปินอาเซียนเป็นปูชนียบุคคลด้านดนตรีไทย ท่านเกิดใน พ.ศ. 2443 สมัยรัชกาลที่ 5 และได้สร้างผลงานต่อเนื่องมาเป็นเวลาถึง 84 ปี ท่านได้รับการกล่าวขวัญในฐานะศิลปิน 5 แผ่นดิน ผู้เป็นที่ยอมรับในฝีมือจนได้รับยกย่องให้เป็นศิลปินแห่งชาติ สาขาดนตรีไทย เป็นที่เคารพรักนับถือของทุกคนที่ได้รู้จัก และมีลูกศิษย์ลูกหามากมายแต่ในความมีชื่อเสียงและการทำงานหนักของท่าน  ชีวิตส่วนตัวของท่านกลับเรียบง่ายเป็นอย่างยิ่งดังจะเห็นได้จากบ้านโสมส่องแสงซึ่งเป็นบ้านหลังแรกของท่านซึ่งซื้อเมื่อเกษียณอายุราชการ ในปี พ.ศ. 2505  ช่วงนั้นท่านพำนักอยู่กับพระยาอุดมราชภักดีและคุณหญิงเชิด ท่านได้พิจารณาเห็นว่า เจ้าคุณและคุณหญิงได้ให้ความอุปการะมาเนิ่นนานกว่า 17 ปี ถึงเวลาที่ท่านควรจะหาบ้านเป็นของตนเอง ท่านจึงได้ใช้เงินบำเหน็จจากราชการมาซื้อบ้านไม้หลังหนึ่งจากเจ้าของเดิม คือ นายช่วง เอี่ยมภิรมย์ ตั้งอยู่ที่ตำบลตลาดขวัญ จังหวัดนนทบุรี ค่าใช้จ่ายในการซื้อบ้านรวมทั้งปรับปรุงเป็นเงิน 160,925.35 บาท ซึ่งครูมนตรีได้บันทึกรายจ่ายต่างๆ ไว้อย่างละเอียด เมื่อซ่อมแซมจนแล้วเสร็จในปี พ.ศ. 2506 และครูมนตรีได้ย้ายเข้าอยู่ในปีนั้น ต่อมาประมาณปี พ.ศ. 2510 คุณตาล พิชยนันท์ คหบดีจัดสรรที่ดินซอยพิชยนันท์ ซึ่งชื่นชมผลงานของครูมนตรีมาเนิ่นนาน ได้ตัดถนนจากที่ดินจัดสรรของท่านเพื่อเปิดทางให้ครูมนตรีใช้เดินทางออกสู่ถนนซอยพิชยนันท์ และท่านได้ขอให้ครูมนตรีตั้งชื่อซอยย่อยในที่ดินจัดสรรจำนวน 23 ซอย ซึ่งครูมนตรีได้ตั้งชื่อให้เป็นชื่อเพลงไทยทั้งหมด ส่วนซอยที่ตั้งของบ้านท่านเอง ท่านได้ตั้งชื่อว่า ซอยโสมส่องแสง บ้านหลังนี้จึงเรียกขานกันว่า บ้านโสมส่องแสง

ลักษณะของบ้านเป็นบ้านไม้ 2 ชั้น ยกใต้ถุนสูง หลังคาจั่วแบน มีกันสาดยื่นด้านจั่ว ชั้นบน มี 3 ห้องนอน 1 ห้องโถง ชั้นล่างมีครัวและห้องน้ำ ลักษณะสถาปัตยกรรมไทยพื้นถิ่นที่ได้รับอิทธิพลสถาปัตยกรรมสมัยใหม่ สภาพแวดล้อมมีบ่อน้ำล้อมรอบบ้าน ในบริเวณบ้านมีต้นมะพร้าว มะนาว และพืชสวนอื่นๆ ปลูกอยู่โดยรอบ

ครูมนตรี ตราโมท ได้ใช้บ้านนี้เป็นที่ทำงานหลังเกษียณอายุมาโดยตลอด ต่อมาได้มีการต่อเติมปรับปรุงบ้านให้เหมาะกับการใช้สอย และลูกๆ ของท่าน ได้ทำการปลูกบ้านเพิ่มเติมในบริเวณเดียวกัน หลังจากครูมนตรี ตราโมท ถึงแก่กรรมในปี พ.ศ. 2538 ทายาทได้ดำริที่จะอนุรักษ์บ้านของท่านและจัดเป็นพิพิธภัณฑ์ แสดงข้าวของเครื่องใช้ของครูมนตรีในบรรยากาศเหมือนสมัยที่ท่านยังมีชีวิตอยู่ สิ่งสำคัญ ได้แก่ ต้นฉบับงานประพันธ์เพลง เครื่องดนตรี เครื่องราชอิสริยาภรณ์ และมีคำบรรยายเรื่องราวประวัติชีวิตของท่านในช่วงต่างๆ ในวาระครบรอบ 100 ปี ครูมนตรี ตราโมท ศิลปิน 5 แผ่นดิน วันที่ 17 มิถุนายน พ.ศ. 2543 ทายาทและศิษย์ของครูมนตรี ตราโมทได้กราบบังคมทูลเชิญสมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารีเสด็จพระราชดำเนินเปิดบ้านและทอดพระเนตรการแสดง ซึ่งได้เสด็จพระราชดำเนิน เมื่อวันที่ 9 มิถุนายน พ.ศ. 2543

History

Khru Montri Tramot (Master Montri Tramot), National and ASEAN Artist, was a well-respected individual who contributed greatly to the circle of Thai traditional music. He was born in 1900 during the reign of King Rama V , had lived and worked for 84 years up to the present reign. He was hence also known as “5-Reign Artist”. His works were highly complimented and was honored as a National Artist in Thai Music. Beyond his fame and glory, he was a respected artist and loved by friends and his social circle, having taught a great number of students.

Despite his high profile, he led a simple life, as reflected by his house “Som Song Saeng”, the first residence that he bought upon retirement ,having lived with his noble supporters family throughout his working life. In 1962, when Khru Montri retired from the official post, he had been living with Phraya Udomratchaphakdi and Khunying Choed. Having lived with the Udomratchaphakdi family for over 17 years, he decided to find a house of his own and used his pension to buy a house from Mr. Chuang Iamphirom. The house was 2-storey, gable roof, situated in Tambon Talat Khwan, Nonthaburi province. The cost of the house including renovation was 160,925.35 THB, for which the detailed account was recorded by the master.

The house is a 2-storey structure with a raised floor, low-pitched gable roof with extended shading on the gable side. The upper floor has 3 bedrooms and 1 living room, the ground floor is comprised of a kitchen and bathroom. The architecture is defined as local Thai style influenced by modern architecture. The house is surrounded by a pond and orchard with fruits such as coconuts, limes, and many others. Khru Montri bought the house, finished repair and renovation in 1963, then moved that same year.

Circa 1967, Mr. Tan Phitchayanan, a land developer in Soi Phitchayanan who had long admired the works of Khru Montri, had a road built from his property to allow an access from Khru Montri’s house to Soi Phitchayanan. He also asked Khru Montri to name the 23 sois (alleys) in his development project, for which the master gave the namesfollowing the names of traditional Thai songs. As for the soi where his own house was located, it was named “Som Song Saeng”. Since then, the master’s house has been called “Ban Som Song Saeng”.

Khru Montri spent his life and work after retirement in this house, which has been further renovated and extended to serve more requirements. More houses were built in the area for his children and, after the master passed away in 1995, his heir decided to conserve the house .It was renovated as a museum to exhibit his life and works with an atmosphere resembling the time when the master was still living there. Some of the master’s important belongings are i.e. music manuscripts, musical instruments, royal decorations, etc. which are accompanied with descriptions on the master’s biography. On the occasion of Khru Montri Tramot 100th Anniversary on 17th June 2000, his heirs and students had invited H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn to preside over the opening ceremony of the museum on 9th June 2000 and to attend the performances.
