ประวัติ

เมืองโบราณ ก่อตั้งขึ้นด้วยความตั้งใจและความอุตสาหะวิริยะของนายเล็ก  วิริยะพันธุ์  นักธุรกิจผู้มีใจรักในศิลปวัฒนธรรม  ลักษณะของโครงการเป็นพิพิธภัณฑ์กลางแจ้ง (Open air museum) ก่อสร้างขึ้นโดยแนวคิดที่จะแสดงงานสถาปัตยกรรม ชีวิต และศิลปวัฒนธรรมไทยในอดีต บนพื้นที่ที่มีรูปร่างคล้ายแผนที่ประเทศไทย สิ่งก่อสร้างต่างๆ ได้รับการวางตำแหน่งให้ใกล้เคียงกับสถานที่ตั้งจริง ทำให้ผู้เยี่ยมชมสามารถรับรู้บรรยากาศเหมือนเดินทางไปตามภาคต่างๆ ของประเทศไทย ศิลปสถาปัตยกรรมของเมืองโบราณ มีทั้งงานที่เป็นของดั้งเดิมรื้อย้ายมาจากที่อื่น และงานก่อสร้างใหม่  ที่น่าชื่นชมคือไม่ว่าจะเป็นการปรุง ประกอบ ก่อสร้างหรือตกแต่ง  ท่านเจ้าของคือคุณเล็กและคุณประไพ  ได้คัดเลือกช่างที่มีฝีมือเยี่ยมมาดำเนินการ ทำให้ผลงานทุกชิ้นในโครงการนี้มีคุณค่าสูงทางศิลปะ ประกอบกับการจัดภูมิทัศน์ที่สวยงาม ทำให้เมืองโบราณเป็นสถานที่ที่ประทับใจผู้เข้าชมตลอดมา การก่อสร้างเมืองโบราณเริ่มมาตั้งแต่ พ.ศ. 2506  และยังคงดำเนินสืบมาแม้คุณเล็กจะล่วงลับไปแล้ว  ทำให้พิพิธภัณฑ์กลางแจ้งแห่งนี้มีสิ่งใหม่ๆ ให้ชมอยู่เสมอ  เพื่อสืบทอดศิลปวัฒนธรรมไทยต่อไป ดังเจตนารมณ์ของคุณประไพ ที่แถลงไว้ว่า “...เหตุไฉนประเพณีวัฒนธรรมที่บรรพบุรุษมอบไว้ให้แก่เราจึงถูกทอดทิ้งบ้าง ทำลายบ้าง ทั้งๆ ที่วัฒนธรรมประเพณีนั้นเหมาะสมกับสังคมมนุษย์และสิ่งแวดล้อมของเขา  โดยเหตุนี้ ข้าพเจ้าจึงอยากให้มนุษย์ร่วมโลก รู้จักประเพณีและวัฒนธรรมของเรา เพราะเชื่อว่าจะเป็นประโยชน์แก่มวลมนุษย์ อย่างน้อยก็เป็นเครื่องเตือนใจของผู้ที่กำลังหลงทางในสังคมปัจจุบัน...”

History

Muang Boran Project was founded by the enthusiasm and perseverance of Mr. Lek Wiriyaphan, a businessman who highly cherished art and culture. The project is an open air museum situated on a vast area, which has beeb choosen to have a shape similar to the map of Thailand. The exibitits are, therefore located on the sites which correspond to the originals’ that enable visitors to get a feeling of touring in different regions around the country. The compound comprises various kinds of art and architecture, some are the relocated originals, some are reconstructure form imaginations. Thry are highly distinguished in all aspects or workmanship thanks to the owners, Mr. Lek and Mrs. Praphai Wiriyaphan who put their efforts in finding the best craftsmen to catty out the works. The structure, in combination with beautiful and well-designed landscape, have made Muang Boran a memorable place to visitors of all time. The project began in 1963, and has continued until today thus Muang Boran always have something new for visitors to see, and to be handed down to our followers, as the statement of Mrs. Praphai  Wiriyaphan  clearly expresses: “…Why have traditions and cultures that our forefathers gave to us been neglected, or destroyed in spite of their suitability to our society and environment? Therefore, I wish for humankind to learn our traditions and culture because I believe it will be beneficial. At least to remind those who as lost in today’s society…”
