History

Ruean Banleng was a newlywed’s house for General Phra Maha Thepkasatsamuha (Nueang Sakrik) and Banleng Sinlapabanleng, the second daughter of Luangpraditphairo. The house is situated in royal lineage’s, noblemen’s and civil servants’ dwelling area. During the reign of King Rama VI and King Rama VII, this area has been allocated for sales since the early age of Bangkok. Due to its proximity to Phaya Thai Palace, Chitralada Palace and Amphon Sathan Throne Hall, most of the buyers were royal members and courtiers. Therefore, Ruean Banleng is surrounded by the ancient community of Bangkok reflecting ways of life in the last 70 years.

The construction of Ruean Banleng was controlled by Chot Praditphairo employing a Chinese building contractor named Hia Hu to carry out the construction at the address of 47 Soi Setthasiri Road, Tambon Bang Sue, Amphoe Dusit, Changwat Phra Nakorn which belonged to Phra MahaThepkasatsamuha (Nueang Sakrik). It is a high-raised teak house having hipped roofs covered with cement tiles. There are two entrances from the outside. The second floor was divided into a living room, a dining room, a bathroom and a bedroom. There is also a roofless terrace on the second floor.

This house has subsequently become the office of Luangpraditphairo (Son Sinlapabanleng) Organization since 1981. Khun Ying Chin Sinlapabanleng, Luangpraditphairo’s first daughter, is the first president of this organization, whose main aim is to preserve Thai traditional music as the national heritage. Besides, it is considered vital to encourage young people and general public to perceive the value of this unique culture. Ruean Banleng has been recently restored in 2007, remaining its originality in perfect condition.
